Dear Pat,
I received the airfare reimbursement; thanks.
I hope your book is just about complete by now. When will it be
published? I'll probably be teaching the introductory AI course next
year at CMU (Newell is on sabbatical), so I'd like to look it over.
My oral exam is scheduled for May 19, so by definition I now have a
first draft of my thesis ready. Actually, a few appendices are
missing and the overview chapter is only half written.
I'm sending you this draft now, in case you'd like to look it over
(for the text you're writing, and also to provide feedback to me).
Criticism is encouraged!
Your memory of my talk will probably suffice to fill in the missing
oveview material. Chapter 2 contains an introductory example. The
next few chapters deal with the control structure and representation
in great detail. The last couple chapters present some of the
results and conclusions.
If you think of a better title, I'm still open for suggestions. The
subtitle is of course a joke, and will change before the final draft.
I hope to hear from you soon; if you return this draft with some
suggestions, I'll mail you another copy right away. In any event,
I'll send you a copy of the final thesis.
